Easter Egg Art Project

I saw this great Easter egg art project when I was surfing Pinterest the other day, and I wanted to share the idea with you!  The original idea came from Mom to 2 Posh Lil Divas!  Let me share what worked and didn't work in a classroom of 22 first graders!  :)

Materials:
-Butcher Paper to cover tables
-Easter egg template printed on white cardstock
-Colored sidewalk chalk
-Bowls of water
-Pencil to write their name on the back

I would highly recommend doing this activity in small groups rather than with the whole class!  First off, I only purchased one roll of painter's tape and so the kiddos had to share it.  The students were really pretty good at tearing off or cutting pieces of tape to put on their egg, but a few really needed help with this step.  I had several examples on hand to guide them, but as you can see from the pictures below, the kiddos were super creative!  (Check out the Angry Bird egg down below, haha)

Step One:
Have students cut out Easter egg and write their name on the back.

Step Two:
Have students tear or cut pieces of painter's tape and put it on their egg.  I encouraged them to make long pieces that hung off the edges so it would be easier to remove the tape later.
 Step Three:
Dip colored chalk in water and decorate the egg!

Step Four:
Let the eggs dry in a safe spot for at least an hour.
Step Five:
Have the teacher or adult volunteer peel off the painter's tape.  It comes off fairly easy, but it's better to have an adult do this step!
